Hendrawan remains coy on Iskandar’s Thomas Cup hopes

Iskandar Zulkarnain’s chances of making the Thomas Cup squad remains unclear after he picked up a foot injury during the Swiss Open last week.

According to men’s singles coach Hendrawan, it is still too early to set a conclusion on the young gun’s participation as the closing date is due at May 1.

“Iskandar will be coming from from Switzerland today (yesterday) and after that he will be undergoing a series of check-up. We will assess his level of injuries then. There is still time for the recovery process. We will discuss on the issue based on the level later on,” said Hendrawan as quoted from Harian Metro.

Iskandar has displayed a string of improvements since the beginning of the year. His groundbreaking moment was during the Malaysian Masters where he was runner-up to Lee Chong Wei.

The 25 year-old also made the headlines when he captained the Malaysian contingent in the Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) last month. He was the only men’s player to have won all of the matches he took part in.

Iskandar withdrew from the Swiss Open last week after an unfortunate setback during the second set against Indonesia’s Muhammad Bayu Pangisthu.
