Police tighten security ahead of Penang-Kedah clash

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will be on high alert in the Super League game between Pulau Pinang and Kedah in the Bandaraya Stadium, tonight.

Assistant Commissioner Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the police have issued stern warnings to the supporters to prevent chaotic scenes from happening, and entrance checks will be tightened to detect those who try to bring illegal objects into the stadium.

“I advise the supporters not to be too emotional and commit unlawful acts while watching a football game. Be matured and accept the results with an open heart,” he said, as quoted by Utusan Online.

Fixtures between Penang and Kedah has caused multiple violent scenes to happen, namely their Premier League game last season and their Super League match early this season. The Football Association Penang (FAP) have even lodged a police report when their team bus was damaged by rocks thrown by supporters.

Just a few weeks ago, a few Facebook accounts owned by both sets of fans instigated each other and warned that the upcoming game won’t end peacefully.
