WBC champion Farkhan receives RM3.8 million sponsorship from TMJ

It is a double dose of good news for Malaysia’s first boxer to win the World Boxing Council (WBC) Asia Silver cruiserweight title, Muhammad Farkhan Haron as he receives the Crown Prince of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim’s sponsorship to train in the United States for two years.

TMJ made the approach to assist the 28-year-old boxer, which will cost him an estimated amount of $470,000 (RM1.9 million) a year.

In light of the positive development in Farkhan’s career, he has made preparations to move to Las Vegas, Nevada to train at the Mayweather Boxing Club.

“I’m grateful that His Highness is willing to sponsor my two-year training cost in the United States. This chance will be extremely valuable for me to boost my career.

“Aspiring boxers know it is a must to train at US in order to be world-class. It is my dream to elevate the nation and Johor’s name at the international stage,” he said, as quoted by Kosmo!

“I’m excited to train at a club owned by Floyd Mayweather Jr. I can only last till 32 if I stay in Malaysia, but I might go beyond 36 if I’m trained at US,” he added.

The 2009 SEA Games gold medallist made history on Saturday when he defeated Indonesia’s Elly Pangaribuan via a TKO to win his maiden WBC Silver Asia title.
