New York City’s David Villa named MSL Player of the Year

Looks like David Villa steals the spotlight wherever he goes!

The New York City forward and former Barcelona star has been crowned as Major League Soccer’s (MLS) Most Valuable Player. This is to acknowledge and honour his efforts in helping to turns things around for New York City FC.

David Villa scored 23 goals and provided four assists for his current club, lifting them into their first appearance in the playoffs.

The 35 year-old Spaniard was signed by New York City FC when it joined the league two years ago. Villa had to endure two misfortunes right away; the team missed the postseason and the coach was fired.

But Villa’s goals, together with other seasoned footballers like Andrea Pirlo and Frank Lampard, New York City FC managed to turn things around for the better.

“Two and a half years ago, when I decided to come here, some people thought maybe I had come here to find a home and retire,” Villa said. “I tried every day to show to the people that I come here to be strong and competitive.”

Yes, David, you show them!
