#ESLOne 2017 Day 1: As it happened

The ESL One 2017 is happening up in the chilly Genting Highlands this year, as teams from all over world fly in to battle each other out to be crowned champions of Dota 2.

Round 1 of the ESL One saw our very own Team Fnatic take on Virtus.Pro (VP). Both sides appeared intense as they gave each a tough fight, but eventually VP defeated Fnatic 1-0 to get themselves into the winner’s bracket.

The second match had Team Newbee up against team NP, where the former sunk the latter and eased into the winner’s bracket as well. The third match of the day had TI6 runners up, Team Digital Chaos taking on Philippine’s Team Execration. Digital Chaos lived up to their reputation and did not disappoint the crowd – they beat their opponents to march into the winner’s bracket as well

Finally, we saw China’s Wings Gaming sink another Malaysian team to a lower bracket. Wings beat WarriorsGaming.Unity run to emerge victorious and subsequently face Digital Chaos in winner’s bracket.

Things got heated up later in the afternoon as first and second match winners, Virtus.Pro and Newbee battled each other. The two teams battled it out in a “best of three” round, but the third round wasn’t needed as Newbee destroyed Virtus.Pro twice in a row and qualified for the semi-finals.

The final match of the night was the most intense; Digital Chaos went up against Wings Gaming in a merciless ‘best of three series’ battle for the semi-finals. Wings Gaming secured victory in the first round, but Digital Chaos retaliated in the second round, and ultimately sent Wings into the playoffs after winning the third round.

The world-class tournament was also graced by international host, Eri Neeman, and renowned commentators Toby Dawson, Kevin Godec, and Merlini, amongst others.
