Official: Faiz Subri makes history by clinching prestigious FIFA Puskas Award

BOOM!

Faiz Subri has made history in Zurich by clinching the FIFA Puskas Award for his impeccable knuckleball free-kick goal for Penang FA in February 2016.

The 29 year-old forward received a whopping 59.46% of the vote, ahead of Marlone (22.86%) and Daniuska Rodriguez (10.01%), as the entire football fraternity spent months raving over his incredible strike.

“Honestly, it has never crossed my mind that I would arrive at this level and be able to stand tall amongst world class footballers in this amazing place,” Faiz said after receiving the award from Brazilian legend Ronaldo.

“Here, I would like to say thank you to the management of the Penang team, all the coaches, my teammates, staff, PFAM, my family, and all Malaysians, especially Penangites,” he added.

He produced the moment of absolute brilliance during Penang’s 4-1 route over Pahang last year. Having scored his side’s first goal on the 3rd minute of the game, Faiz unleashed a Roberto Carlos-esque free-kick attempt midway through the second half, leaving Nasril Nourdin helpless in between Pahang’s sticks.

More to come…
