Frost urges caution over Zulfadli expectations

Badminton Association of Malaysia’s Technical Director Morten Frost has reminded fans to not place too much of expectations on national shuttler Zulfadli Zulkifli, ahead of the upcoming World Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The 22 year-old shuttler will be competing representing Malaysia in the singles category, alongside Lee Chong Wei but Frost believes that it would be unwise to expect Zulfadli to go all the way to the final or even clinch the title.

“Zulfadli doesn’t have the standard that is required to be able to win the World Championship. He is more than qualified to compete for it, yes. But this will be more of an opportunity for him to gain vital experience,” Frost told Harian Metro.

“It’s not impossible to win the World Championship, and it entirely depends on the player himself. But definitely not this year.

Zulfadli will have a tough start from the get-go as he has been paired against Taiwan’s sixth seed, Chou Tien Chen in the first round. But considering that he not under the tutelage of BAM, Zulfadli will continue to train individually, before linking up with the national squad in Jakarta.

The World Championship will take place between the 10th and 16th of August.
