Boon Heong-Kien Keat continue revival of fortunes

Things couldn’t have gone much better for men’s doubles Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong as they continue their impressive run of form with a straight sets win over second seeds Marcus Ellis/Chris Langridge of England in the final of “White Nights 2015” International Challenge on Sunday.

Due to a series of bad performances, the duo was separated by Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) earlier last year. Yet that didn’t stop them from making a comeback as an independent pair, reaching the quarter-finals in the 2015 Australian Open.

Prior to their comeback, Boon Heong spoke to the Malaysian Insider, stating that the pair chose to compete by their own instead of getting help from BAM.

“I still have three years sponsorship with Yonex while Koo is now working out a deal. Once the contracts are firmed up, we will be there,” he said.

“We will try to qualify for the Olympics next year, even though there is not much time left,” he said then.

Koo/Tan has now won their second title in three tournaments since announcing their return, including the Sri Lanka International Challenge earlier this June when they defeated fellow countrymen Chooi Kah Ming/Ow Yao Han in the final.
