2015 Malaysia Super League Preview: Terengganu FA

The Malaysia Super League is back! After what appeared to be a monumental hiatus, all the excitement and drama that we usually get from the country’s top league is already underway with Johor DT defeating Pahang to lift the Charity Shield last weekend. And if you thought last year was brilliant, be prepared to watch things escalate to a whole new level this year. With Johor DT pushing forward in their expansion plans, other teams trying to keep up and match the Southern Tigers, and the fiasco involving television rights for the league; there’s so much more to expect this year. That being said, FourthOfficial.com will be unleashing a series of club previews over the next five days and we’ll take a look at all the teams that will be strutting their stuff in the Super League this year. Next on the list is Terengganu FA!

ANALYSIS

Terengganu have always been one of those teams that you’d want to keep an eye on every season, because they usually have the potential to cause an upset. They’ve always tipped around the bush; be it with their squad selection or performances on the pitch. But as far as 2015 is concerned, it’s perhaps time to take them seriously and regard them as title contenders.

Knowing that the likes of Johor DT and Kelantan were always going to push in the direction of beefing their squad, Terengganu made a bold decision and jumped at the chance of securing Paulo Rangel, the moment his issues with Selangor FA went public. Next thing you know, the Super League top scorer was seen posing with their jersey. His acquisition in itself guarantees goals, as displayed in pre-season matches.

But besides that, they also have Manaf Mamat and Ashaari Shamsuddin; two experienced players who will benefit greatly from Rangel’s role upfront. They managed to retain the services of Vincent Bikana at the heart of their defence, while in Abdul Rahman Ibrahim, they have someone who is more than capable of spearheading their bid to triumph. Like it or not, these guys have what it takes on paper. And if Rangel clicks in impeccably, then expect the East Coast side to be sending shock waves throughout the league.
