Exclusive: I’m not Sabah’s head coach – George O’Callaghan

George O’Callaghan has officially denied speculations of him being Sabah FA head coach, in an exclusive interview with FourthOfficial.com’s Aysha Ridzuan.

News initially broke out yesterday that there were serious concerns over Sabah FA’s squad for the upcoming season, after a source exclusively revealed to us that George O’Callaghan doesn’t have the necessary paperwork or license to be registered as Sabah FA’s head coach.

However, O’Callaghan when contacted today has denied those allegations completely.

“There’s no truth in that at all. I am the general manager/ manager of Sabah FA. So facts are wrong there,” he told FourthOfficial.com

“Justin Ganai and Andrew Majanggim were always the candidates for the head coach position, not me.”

The second issue that was beleaguering Sabah FA was the fact that their new foreign signing, Tales Dos Santos would not be eligible to play in the Malaysian Premier League as the Brazilian defender last played for Phuket FC in the second division of Thai football.

FAM regulations state that any foreign player signed from leagues in Asia, must have last played for a club in the top division of that particular country, meaning that Dos Santos will be deemed underqualified.

Having said that, O’Callaghan went on to clarify that Sabah FA are well aware of the rules and regulations and that they have a back up plan to deal with the predicament.

“We want to sign Santos and we know the rules. Currently we are in the midst of loaning Santos out. We have many options. Our plan was always to have Santos for the Malaysia Cup.

“We want him to be involved with the club at some stage of the new season, whether it’s now or the next transfer window. We are open to signing players and loaning as we are doing with Andrezinho, our foreign player from last season.”
