C. Ronaldo expects “best of the bunch” Portugal to top group

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo described his belief that the national side can finish first in their European qualifying group clear following the side’s triumph over Denmark in Copenhagen yesterday.

The player was brimming with confidence after the match when speaking to TV station RTP about his side’s journey to Euro 2016 in France.

“As I’ve said before, Portugal will qualify first, because our national team is the best of the bunch and we will demonstrate that on the pitch” he said.

“I am confident that we will be in the European championships” he went on to add.

Ronaldo’s Portugal currently stand in third place behind Albania and Denmark in Group I, which has one fewer team than the other groups.

The side have a game in hand against the Danes, however, and could also benefit from Albania being sanctioned following a violent fixture against Serbia at the Partizan Stadium in Belgrade in which a drone carrying an Albanian flag also made an appearance.

The Real Madrid star remains focused on the task at hand, however, leading from the front after his match winning goal yesterday took his tally to 22 in European Championship games.

When asked how he felt about matching both Hakan Sukur and Jon Dahl Tomasson of Turkey and Denmark respectively as the competition’s all-time leading scorer, the player remained optimistic.

“Logically, with both Real Madrid and the national team it is always rewarding to score goals. I have to work well and I am proud to be entering on to a new page” he had added, according to a report by ESPN FC.

Ronaldo will next lead Portugal out in a European qualifier against Armenia at home on November 14.
