Ferrer and Murray on track for London bid

Top seeds David Ferrer and Andy Murray continued their bids to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals with victories in the second round of the Erste Bank Open.

Ferrer weathered through a tough first set against Germany’s Tobias Kamke before advancing 7-5, 6-1. The No.1 seed, who next faces sixth seed Ivo Karlovic in the quarter-finals, is bidding to qualify for the season finale for a fifth consecutive year. The Spaniard has to reach the Vienna final in order to add to his total points, in the Emirates ATP Race to London.

Meanwhile, Murray, seeded second in his tournament debut, recorded his win over Vasek Pospisil 6-4, 6-4. The Scot will next battle Jan-Lennard Struff, 7-6(6), 2-6, 7-6(3) winner over Sergiy Stakhovsky, for a semi-final berth.

Murray sits in 10th position, just one rung behind Ferrer, in the Emirates ATP Race To London.
