Marc Marquez to begin Australian GP on pole

Recently crowned MotoGP World Champion, Marc Marquez, has seized pole position for the Australian GP race, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday.

The Spanish rider, who clinched the championship with three races to spare last Sunday, finished first in qualifying with a sensational time of 1 minute, 28.408 on his Honda, with Cal Crutchlow and Jorge Lorenzon coming behind him in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Despite having the World championship in his bag, Marquez still has a strong incentive to do well on Sunday, as a first placed finished would see him equal Mick Doohan’s 12 grand prix wins in a single season. And the Spaniard is certainly looking forward to achieving that on Mick’s home soil.

““It’s Australia, his country, it would be nice to do. I will try to take the risk to win the race. The records are always important, especially when people compare you with legends,” he said.

But the major focus of this weekend’s race will be on the battle for second spot on the overall standing. Jorge Lorenzo, Valetino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa are all in the race for it, with Jorge visibly having the perfect opportunity to strengthen his chances.
