Brendan Rodgers backs Balotelli ahead of Madrid clash

Brendan Rodgers continues to insist that it’s only a matter of time before Mario Balotelli hits top form in a Liverpool shirt, and that it could even arrive in their Champions League match against Real Madrid later tonight.

The Italian forward has struggled for form since making his 16 million pounds move from AC Milan last summer, which has led many to question his continued inclusion in the first team.

However, Rodgers believes that Balotelli has more than what it takes to be a hit at Anfield, and that he will be looking forward to do well against Madrid, if selected.

“He scores big goals in big games. I’m sure he will go into tomorrow, if picked, looking forward,” said Rodgers. “It is just a matter of time before he gets his goals.”

Meanwhile, Gareth Bale will be missing the clash due to injury, though Cristiano Ronaldo, who has netted an incredible 20 goals so far this campaign, will be expected to spearhead Madrid’s challenge.

“Ronaldo is arguably the best player in the world at the moment, and his evolution from being a soloist who scores goals to a goalscorer is there to see,” Rodgers said.

“But we have to make a plan for our team first to ensure we cause Real Madrid problems and then prepare yourself for the quality players they have.”
