Halep nominated again for WTA Player of the Month

Simona Halep has been nominated for October’s Player Of The Month, alongside Serena Williams and Andreea Petkovic for her recent performance at the WTA Finals in Singapore.

The Romanian ace, who played in the tournament for the first time in her career, defeated Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard and Williams in the group stage of the tournament, before defeating Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska in the semifinals.

Although Halep eventually lost in the the finals to Williams, she made enough of an impression and even got her opponent to brand her as the next future number one.

This nomination marks Halep’s third for this season, after she was also nominated in May and July; though she didn’t win on any of those occasions.

Williams and Maria Sharapova have each won the award three times this year, while Petra Kvitova, Li Na and Venus Williams also took home Player of the Month awards.
