English Premier League: Sunday Recap

Arsenal suffered their second loss of the season, after falling to a 2-1 defeat against Swansea last night. Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring for the Gunners, with his 12th goal of the season, but Sigurdsson equalized on the 75th minute, before Bafetimbi Gomis headed home the winner just three minutes later. The defeat further dented Arsenal’s dreams to catching up with league leaders, Chelsea.

Stoke City secured a morale boosting 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane yesterday. Bojan Krkic found the net as early as on the 6th minute mark, before Jonathan Walters scored from close range to double their lead on the half hour mark. Spurs kept pushing in search of the two goals that would allow them to level the score, though they could only muster one through Nacer Chadli in the second half, as they fell to yet another defeat.

Meanwhile, Newcastle continued their renaissance, claiming a pivotal 2-0 win over West Brom. Ayoze Perez, who has been in terrific form over the last few weeks, opened the scoring for the Magpies, before Coloccini comfortably added a second to give Newcastle their fifth successive victory in all competitions.

Everton on the other hand, could only secure a 1-1 draw against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Sebastian Larsson initially broke the deadlock for Sunderland on the 67th minute, much to the joy of home fans. But Everton kept pushing and were awarded a penalty just nine minutes later, after Conor Wickham was adjudged to have fouled Seamus Coleman inside the box. Leighton Baines stepped up and fired home to seize a point for Roberto Martinez’s men.
