Swiss Davis Cup bid in jeopardy

Roger Federer reportedly had a 10-minute row with rival Stan Wawrinka after their semifinal meeting at the ATP World Tour Finals on Saturday.

The world number 2 won the match 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 at the O2 Arena in London over the weekend, but his victory has been overshadowed by the fallout.

According to reports, one of the reasons the Swiss compatriots argued was because Federer’s wife, Mirka, had heckled Wawrinka from the sidelines during their match.

She allegedly made audible comments from the supporter’s box, which is at ground level, questioning loudly in French on his capabilities to close the match.

French media claimed Wawrinka had said that this wasn’t the first time, as Mirka had done the same thing at Wimbledon.

Federer’s camp has yet to issue any statements on the incident, assuming they’re threading lightly on the matter as the two men are representing Switzerland in the Davis Cup final against France this Friday.

The 17 time Grand Slam champion has yet to win the Davis Cup, and he will likely be relying on his long-time colleague to help him achieve that win, especially if they are paired together for a doubles match.
