Mark Hughes fuels Chelsea quadruple talk

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes believes that Chelsea have what it takes within their squad to be able to steamroll past the season and triumph in four different competitions.

Chelsea have been absolutely impressive throughout this campaign, with new signings in the form of Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas in imperious form as well. And that excellent form continued on Monday when they cruised past Stoke City, winning 2-0 on the night.

Having watched his side get systematically dismantled by Mourinho’s men, Mark Hughes now thinks that the Blues can go on to clinch a historic quadruple at the end of the campaign.

“Nobody else has done it but they’ve got the potential to do it,” he said. “I would have to say yes, they are strong enough.

“There will be some very good teams who will try and stand in the way but I don’t think where we are sat today you could argue that they’ve got no chance because that would be incorrect. They have a chance, a better chance than most teams. The talk of winning every trophy, maybe in-house they believe that themselves. It wouldn’t surprise me if they did.

“Once they get to a point in the season, around March or April, and if they are still in all competitions, having probably won the League Cup, then they will feel it’s a real option for them, a real possibility. You wouldn’t back against them if they get to that point in the season. It certainly wouldn’t surprise me if they won all four.”

Chelsea’s toughest adversity will evidently be the Champions League, where they are set to take on PSG in the Round of 16 in February.
