Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova have been named as 2014’s Athletes of the Year by the United States’ Sports Academy
The announcement was made on Wednesday, with the Daphne-based academy deciding to pay tribute to two individuals who were sensational throughout the year; something that the entire tennis fraternity would concur with.
Djokovic, who is currently the World No.1 tennis player, claimed his second Wimbledon title this year, besides the fact that he also secured his fourth Sony Open title.
Meanwhile, Sharapova triumphed at the Roland Garros last summer and is currently ranked as the second best female player in the World.
Both individuals are currently preparing for the upcoming season of tennis, with the Australian Open set to take place next month.
