Khairy Jamaluddin : FAM have their own plans

Youth and Sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin revealed that he respects the strategies that have been carried out by national head coach Dollah Salleh despite its negative impact on the FIFA world ranking.

In the list, Malaysia have dropped from 153rd to 164th behind the likes of Vietnam (125), Philippines, (139), Thailand (142), Indonesia (159), Myanmar (158), Singapore (162) and Bhutan (163).

The decision made by the FAM to engage tougher opposition in friendlies and to participate in difficult competitions has resulted in a poor run of form which has contributed to the free fall in the FIFA world ranking!

Malaysia suffered their heaviest defeat since 1999 as they conceded six goals en route to being thrashed by Oman in Muscat.

However, Khairy understood the decisions made by the football governing body, claiming that the aim was to help the team gain more experience in tough matches.

“We don’t have to panic because FAM have their own plans.” Khairy was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.

That being said, Khairy added the country should focus on major tournaments like the SEA Games, AFF Suzuki cup and the AFC Cup, rather than the rankings as of now.
