Monte Carlo Masters: Novak Djokovic through to the third round

World number one Novak Djokovic breezed past Spanish qualifier Albert Ramos-Vinolas with a comfortable win to advance to the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters.

The top-ranked Serb easily demolished the qualifier with a 6-1, 6-4 straight sets win. Djokovic is set to seal his last eight spot in the tournament but first, a third round clash against Austria’s Andreas Haider-Maurer awaits the world number 1.

The Austrian on the other hand edged Bernard Tomic with a scrappy 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 in just under three hours.

Meanwhile, world number seven David Ferrer is through to the third round when his opponent, Victor Estrella Burgos retired with a shoulder injury. David Ferrer was initially leading 6-2 in the opening set, and 2-0 in the second before Burgos withdrew from the match.

Ferrer will either face Giles Simon or Benoit Paire depending on the outcome of their second round clash.
