Monte Carlo Masters: Djokovic claims historic win

Top seed Novak Djokovic added another historical record to his bag of achievements after edging over world number 8 Tomas Berdych in the Monte Carlo Masters, to become the first man to win three straight Masters 1000 event titles in a season.

Despite making 38 unforced errors throughout the entire match, the world number one managed to survive and claim a scrappy 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 victory earlier today.

Djokovic edged a close win in the opening set before the sixth seed Czech stepped up his game and took advantage of the short rain delay when he broke the top seed with a 6-4 victory in the second set.

The world number one then bounced back in the decider, when he broke early twice in the third set to create a 4-0 lead and powered through to a 6-3 victory.

This win marks Djokovic’s 17th straight win of the season and his third straight title, following his recent triumphs at the Miami Open as well as the Indian Wells.
