Spanish MotoGP: Lorenzo claims pole position

Two-time MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo managed to secure pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez.

Riding for Yamaha, Lorenzo set a provisional pole with his first lap before improving it to 1m37.910s which is the fastest ever motorcycle lap around Jerez.

The Spaniard has not secured a podium finish in 2015, though his fine form in three of the four Jerez practice sessions, allowed him to dominate the qualifying session and clinch pole by nearly four-tenths of a second.

His compatriot Marc Marquez, who underwent surgery for a fractured finger recently, crashed in the P4 session. However, he managed to bounce back and finish second in the qualifiers.

The following will be the grid line-up for the Spanish GP :

1. Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) 2. Marc Marquez (Honda) 3. Andrea Iannone (Ducati) 4. Pol Esparago (Monster Yamaha) 5. Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) 6. Aleix Esparago (Suzuki) 7. Cal Crutchlow (Honda)  8. Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) 9. Yonny Hernandez (Pramac) 10. Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha) 11. Danilo Petrucci (Pramac) 12. Scott Redding (Marc VDS)
