Shinji Kagawa relishing Johor DT friendly

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Shinji Kagawa claims that he’s looking forward to visiting Malaysia for an upcoming friendly match against reigning Super League champions Johor DT in July.

The match will take place at the Larkin Stadium; a ground that is widely recognized amongst Japanese fans as their national team qualified for the 1998 FIFA World Cup by beating Iran 3-2 in Larkin.

While Kagawa was merely eight years old when that exact incident took place, he’s excited about the opportunity of visiting a stadium that’s highly regarded within the Japanese football spectrum, besides suggesting that he will be giving his all despite it being a friendly match.

“I’m certainly looking forward to playing in a stadium that brought Japan luck so many years ago,” he told Harian Metro.

“I will be looking to give my all as well, even if it’s merely a friendly match. Before he play Johor DT, we’ll be going to Japan. I’m not sure of the exact dates but more importantly, I’m looking forward to the match against JDT.

“I hope the Dortmund fans in Malaysia come to support us and it should be an interesting game because the JDT team is made up of players from the Malaysian national team,” he added.

Johor DT will be taking on Borussia Dortmund on the 9th of July, with kick-off slated for 8.45 PM.
