Malaysian pole vaulter Iskandar Alwi has no choice but to get use to the longer vault in order to stand a fighting chance to win a gold medal in the Singapore SEA Games.
Iskandar is still finding his way to solve the mismatch between him and the 4.90 meter long vault since last March. The vault is currently 0.15 m longer than his old one.
National pole vault coach Teh Weng Chang proclaimed that Iskandar needs to be able to familiarize with the longer vault because only then will he be able to perform well and potentially produce a better result in Singapore, compared to the previous edition in Myanmar.
Iskandar’s personal best is 5.16 m, which was produced during the 92nd edition of the National Open Athletics Championships in Bukit Jalil, last March. However, the record was done by using his old vault. Therefore, Weng Chang thinks that with a longer vault, it is possible to break the record.
Iskandar will be testing the new vault at the ongoing Pole Vault Championships in Busan, South Korea.
