SEA Games: Malaysia 1-0 Timor Leste

Malaysia got their SEA Games campaign off to a nervy start after securing a narrow 1-0 win over Timor Leste earlier today.

D. Saarvindran’s solitary goal was more than enough to grant them victory on a night where things could have gone very wrong for them.

Ong Kim Swee’s charges started the game well, dominating possession and pressuring the Timor Leste players into their own half. That ultimately allowed them to break the deadlock on the 10th minute mark.

But 20 minutes later, they were down to 10 men, as Nazmi Faiz got himself sent off for spitting in the direction of a Timor Leste player. That forced Malaysia to play the remaining 60 minutes on their backfoot, though they did it successfully to claim three points and get their SEA Games campaign off to a winning start.
