Age will not be a barrier to SEA Games success – 15 year-old Jin Wei

Age is not a factor to limit Goh Jin Wei’s strong determination to make a sterling debut at the Singapore SEA Games, which also coincides as her first ever international senior tournament.

The 15 year-old badminton player, who was the champion of the 2015 Kuala Lumpur Open, is anticipating her individual appearance for the national badminton team.

“Actually, I never imagined I would be listed in the national squad for the SEA Games but now it feels like I’ve been given a high recognition of my skills,” said Jin Wei as quoted from Harian Metro.

The teen had expected to represent the nation at 17 but was eventually given an early exposure. She claims to be exhilarated to play against high ranked players from Indonesia and Thailand.

“I don’t want to face any stress. I just want to do my best and possibly make a surprise in Singapore.”

“At the same time, it can measure my skills throughout South East Asia.”

The last time Malaysia won a gold medal in the women’s singles was the 2003 edition in Vietnam, courtesy of Datin Wong Mew Choo.

“I will chase all the shuttles,” The Penangite spoke of her thoughts in every match.

“It is because I am short and I have no choice.”

She suggests that the only way for her to beat her opponent is to constantly move as her limbs are not long enough. Jin Wei has no distinct aims on getting a medal as she is still a rookie, but she hopes to thrive till the very top.

The team event is scheduled to commence on June 10 till 12 whereas the individual events will start from June 13 till 16.
