We accepted bribes – Ex-FIFA official Chuck Blazer

Ex FIFA official Chuck Blazer has admitted to the court that he had previously accepted bribes with other committee executives ahead of the 1998 and 2010 World Cups – helping South Africa land the role of host.

“Beginning in or around 2004 and continuing through 2011, I and others on the Fifa executive committee agreed to accept bribes in conjunction with the selection of South Africa as the host nation for the 2010 World Cup,” Blazer said as quoted from BBC.

“I and others agreed to accept bribes and kickbacks in conjunction with the broadcast and other rights to the 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2003 Gold Cups (the regional championship for national teams).”

The 70 year-old was reported to be suffering from rectal cancer, diabetes and coronary artery disease and has pleaded guilty to committing wire fraud, money laundering, racketeering, income tax evasion and failure to report foreign bank accounts.
