David De Gea spotted in Madrid, transfer to Real imminent?

Real Madrid target David De Gea was spotted at the Madrid Baras international airport as Spanish paper AS tweeted a photo of the 24-year-old arriving in Madrid.

De Gea, who was pictured wearing a white t-shirt and black shades, insisted that he was only at Madrid ‘for a rest’ when questioned by journalists.

“I am fine,” he told reporters at Madrid Barajas International Airport. “I have just come home to have some rest.”

Speculation about his imminent departure from Manchester United have been going on since the near end of last season after a string of impeccable performances which led to him being voted Fans’ Player Of The Year and Players’ Player of the Year for the second successive season.

Madrid have shown their interest in signing De Gea publicly, as they consider him as the ideal replacement for club captain Iker Casillas, whose form has declined over the years.

And it seems increasingly likely that David De Gea’s playing days with Manchester United are over after his latest appearance in Madrid.

The former Atletico Madrid player has made 175 appearances for United, winning the Premier League once in what was Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season.

Back in May, United manager Louis Van Gaal told reporters that he hopes De Gea would stay, but nevertheless has lined up replacements in the event that he leaves.

He said: “When we have a very good scouting commission, then we shall already know who shall be the next goalkeeper. We also have a list of goalkeepers who can replace him because we have to be organised always. Not only for that position but for every position. We want him to stay and I hope he shall sign.” as quoted by The Guardian.
