Video: Tour de France bears witness to horror crash

It was just supposed to be a routine race in stage three of the Tour de France.

The ride turned into a nightmare when French William Bonnet accidentally clipped the wheel of compatriot Warren Barguil, causing him to fall awkwardly and creating a huge crash involving 20 riders at the back.

Officials immediately stopped the race as doctors and team members see to the needs of the injured riders for more than 10 minutes.

Fabian Cancellara, the race leader and wearer of the Yellow Jersey, was also involved, although he wanted to continue despite seeming to be taken aback and disorientated.

It was later reported that Cancellara had to withdraw from the Tour altogether with two fractured vertebrae.
Bonnet also had his neck strapped in a brace, where his team later confirmed he fractured a vertebra in his neck.

We wish everyone involved a full and speedy recovery.
