Nick Kyrgios hits back at Dawn Fraser for being a ‘blatant racist’

Just when you thought the drama surrounding Nick Kyrgios for his bizarre antics in his lost against Richard Gasquet were over, another incident seems to have unfolded around the young Australian.

When asked about whether his behavior was appropriate on national television, swimming legend Dawn Fraser labeled him as ‘disgusting’ and that ‘he should go back where their fathers or parents came from’

She said: “It’s absolutely disgusting. I am so shocked to think that he went out there to play and he tanked, he did all that tanking, that’s terrible.

“They should be setting a better example for the younger generation of this country, a great country of ours.

“If they don’t like it, go back to where their fathers or their parents came from. We don’t need them here in this country if they act like that,” she added.

Her comments were also directed at another Australian Bernard Tomic, who was involved in an incident for attacking Tennis Australia, which subsequently resulted in his dismissal from the Davis Cup.

Tomic was born in Stuttgart, Germany. His father is Croatian and his mother is Bosnian. They migrated to Gold Coast in 1996 when Tomic was three years old.

Kyrgios, who was born in Canberra, the capital city of Australia, is part Greek from his father’s side and part Malaysian from his mother.

Kyrgios immediately responded to Fraser’s comment via his Facebook account calling her a ‘blatant racist’.

“Throwing a racket, brat. Debating the rules, disrespectful. Frustrated when competing, spoilt. Showing emotion, arrogant. Blatant racist, Australian legend,” he wrote.

Fraser has since issued an apology for her initial comments, but responded to his racist claims by defending herself yet again, albeit less convincingly.

“If you take (my comments) that way then I’m sorry that you take it that way, but I’m not racist at all,” she told Fairfax Media.

“I said, ‘If they don’t want to be Australians then maybe they should go back to the country where their parents come from’. That’s not being racist,” she said.
