National hockey coach Tai Beng Hai hints at mass overhaul of squad

National hockey coach Tai Beng Hai has said that he is unclear about his future as head coach of the Speedy Tigers while he also hinted about the mass overhaul of players in order to bring in more fresh faces.

Malaysia were infamously thrashed by Ireland 4-1 after their shattering defeat at the hands on India – results that essentially ensured that the Speedy Tigers finished sixth, one spot from the fifth qualifying place.

They now find themselves as the reserve team, and realistically, they still have the slimmest chance of making in to the Olympics, but would have to wait and see if developments go accordingly.

“We will have to wait for the team management and MHC’s decision on the next move. We can still make it to Rio, albeit with a slim chance after being placed sixth.

“Our future will be decided after the post-mortem meeting,” he told reporters upon arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Earlier before Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) president Datuk Seri Subahan said that Malaysia’s dreadful performances at the World Hockey League was unacceptable and also implied that new faces would likely be integrated into the team to spruce up an aging squad.

“We have six or seven senior players who will not be together after this, that’s why regularization should be done to ensure that the direction is not affected.” As quoted by Harian Metro.
