Senior players should remain with Speedy Tigers – Haziq Shamsul

National hockey player Muhammad Haziq Shamsul has told senior members of the national hockey team to rethink their decision to call it a day with the national team.

The Speedy Tigers have come into much scrutiny of late, with atrocious performances at The World Hockey League saw Malaysia hanging by a thread to qualify for the Olympics, which has forced the Malaysian Hockey Condederation (MHC) to reevaluate both the national team and head coach Tai Beng Hai, with an exodus of senior players in order to bring integrate more youthful players.

Razie Rahim, Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin Tengku Abdul Jalil, Roslan Jamaluddin, Baljit Singh Charun Singh and Azlan Misron are names that plan to end their career with the national team.

In addition to that, a prestructuring of management within the MHC itself was also proposed, with ex India coach Terry Wash’s move as technical director of the Speedy Tigers imminent.

Hafiq though, remains convinced that the senior members of the squad still have a lot to give because of their highly priceless experiences.

“Perhaps it is time for some senior players to quit but players such as Razie Rahim, Shukri Mutalib and Tengku Tajuddin are still needed for their experience.” He was quoted saying by Bernama.

“Senior players such as Roslan Jamaluddin and Azlan Misron gave me advice and encouragement. I am confident that we will perform better in the qualifiers for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.”
