FAM: No excuse for rejecting national call-up

Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) Secretary General Datuk Hamidin has warned players that withdrawing from call-ups without proper permission from head coach Dollah Salleh will not be approved as he has the rightful authority to determine the final say on the permission to be absent.

Razman Roslan of Pahang was the latest to test the wrath of Salleh as he announced his decision to pull out of the squad that will face Liverpool on July 24 as he was “not prepared” to face the reds.

Clubs have also requested exemptions of their players as the Malaysian Premiere League is currently underway.

Hamidin insisted that reporting for the national call up is mandatory, even if they are currently not physically competent and there should not be an excuse to be exempted.

“Players who are called up are required to report for training. Whether they will be chosen to remain with the squad still ultimately rests on the hands of the head coach (Dollah Salleh)”. As quoted by Harian Metro.

“Players who are currently facing an injury may be exempted, but nevertheless, will still need to report themselves first.”

“Their respective clubs do not have the authority to prevent them from joining the national squad if their names are called up. They are subjected to the statute of the FAM.” He concluded.
