Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club (KLHC) coach Dhaarma Raj Muhammad Abdullah says that although he is just targeting one trophy in the coming season, that does not indicate his lack of confidence towards his squad, rather he is just being realistic on their targets for the season.

The new season of the Malaysian Hockey League is set to start next month and Dhaarma insists that he and his team need to be realistic in their targets in order to evaluate their strengths.

KLHC’s years of dominance in the league was ended last season by Terengganu Hockey Team (THT) as they won both the league as well as the cup – the first team other than KLHC to have won the league for the first time in 8 years.

“It’s not that I do not trust the players in my team, rather we have to be realistic in our targets for the season. I would be delighted if we manage to secure at least one trophy as that would already be considered successful. Having said that though, nothing is impossible as we can achieve more than that.” He said, as quoted by Harian Metro.

THT, who are financially backed by the state government of Terengganu, meant that they were able to splash the cash to recruit numerous players and coaches – both local and foreign, to join their side. Subsequently, they became champions after only what was their second season in the league, and will now head into the new season as the clear favorites once again.

Despite this, Dhaarma is still capable of winning a trophy next season as KLHC have recruited players themselves.

“Last season, we managed to defeat THT, we were close to winning the overall title but lost 2-1 on penalties. One thing the result have proven was that nothing is impossible to achieve more.” He concluded.
