Joo Ven had been a frustrating figure for independent shuttler Chun Seang to break, and after overturning a 16-20 deficit to win the first set, Joo Ven took control of the deciding rubber set to send his opponent packing.

Earlier in the quarter finals, Joo Ven had already pulled off one of the biggest upsets by dumping defending champion, Daren Liew, out of the tournament.

“I had to work really hard to come back and win the first game. But I’m really happy to make the final because I wanted to prove that I, too, can beat the senior players,” said the world no. 112 ranked shuttler, as he spoke to Badminton Planet.

Joo Ven will now face Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, who made it after his opponent Goh Soon Huat retired with a back pain, while catching up 23-25, 8-14.

Zulkarnain Zainuddin also had his moments in the tournament as he surprised Singapore SEA Games silver medalist, Mohd Arif Abdul Latif, by defeating him in the quarter finals.
