Historic bronze for Pandelela in World Aquatics Championships

Pandelela Rinong wrote her name in the history books after becoming the first Malaysian to finish on the podium in an individual event, in the World Aquatics Championships, earlier today.

Fresh from securing her qualification to Rio Olympics 2016, Pandelela recorded a five-dive score of 385.05 points in the women’s 10m platform individual event, good enough to win the bronze medal.

The 22-year-old edged out defending champion Si Yajie of China, who finished fourth on 384.40 points.

The biggest upset though, was by Kim Kuk Hyang of North Korea, as she knocked out China of their throne by winning the gold medal on her debut appearance. She posted a total 397.05 points, while China’s 14-year-old Ren Qian took home the silver with 388.00 points.
