Gasquet, Ferrer set to enthrall Malaysian Open

The Malaysian Open is back!

And this year will see tennis global stars – Frenchman Richard Gasquet and Spanish David Ferrer – to name a few, compete in the centre court for US$ 1,041,540 worth of prize money, at the Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil, from September 26 to October 4.

Gasquet, in particular, is delighted making a return to Malaysia, where he had a great experience last time out.

Speaking from Washington, Gasquet said: “I am delighted to be coming back to KL this year. I have fond memories of playing Rafa (Nadal) in an exhibition and entering the first version of the tournament in 2009. The fans were so supportive and knowledgeable; I’m really looking forward to being there again!”

2015 has been revelation for Gasquet, as he added two more titles to his career total, and once again closing in on his career high ranking of #7.

Joining Gasquet will be 33-year-old David Ferrer of Spain, who confirmed his entry despite pulling out of Wimbledon in June due to an elbow injury.

The event will also be welcoming back Nick Kyrgios, nicknamed the “½ Kampung Kid”, and the recently married Feliciano Lopez.

According to Tournament Director Nick Freyer, Senior Vice President, IMG, Head of Tennis Asia, “We are thrilled that Richard, alongside others have confirmed to return to Kuala Lumpur and we look forward to welcoming all back with our signature Malaysian hospitality.”

The main draw acceptance list’s closing date is on 17 of August, with early entries separated for strong field of additional players, as the competition garners more and more respect from the ATP player community.

In addition, the last three days (2-4 October) of the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur will include a Food Truck Festival, with a wide variety of dishes to be tried.
