TMJ: Unfair for FAM to take bigger piece of the pie

Johor FA’s Royal Patron, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has urged all teams in Malaysia to stand up and fight for the idea of having access to a bigger portion of the broadcasting rights.

The Football Association of Malaysia is set to privatize football leagues within the country next year, which reflects on their decision to sign a deal with MP & Silva, who will know handle the broadcasting aspect of the league. And as far as TMJ is concerned, teams should have at least 70 to 80 per cent of the profit made from televising their matches.

“Before we event talk about privatization, teams should first stand up and fight for their rights,” he said as quoted by Utusan Malaysia.

“Clubs and teams competing in these leagues should get a minimum of 70-80% of the profit. FAM should only get about 20% or so.

“The problem is, most club presidents don’t know their rights. FAM needs to be fair in helping all teams competing within the league, not just prioritize certain teams.

“They need to also understand that two things will certainly kill Malaysian football. Preferential treatments and corruption.”
