World Championships: Chong Wei cruises into second round

Malaysian star shuttler Lee Chong Wei is through to the second round of the World Championships in Jakarta after sealing a routine straight sets win over Lithuania’s Kestutis Navickas.

Fans were slightly concerned over the weekend after Chong Wei reportedly missed training after injuring his toe, but the former world number one showed no signs of discomfort earlier today.

He claimed the first set 21-9, before winning the second set 21-13, to effectively book his spot in the next round of the competition. Depending on the outcome, Chong Wei will either face Zwiebler of Germany or Guerrero of Cuba next.

Meanwhile, Zulfadli Zulkifli, who claimed a shocking win over Taiwan’s Tien Chen Chou yesterday, will next take on Ireland’s Scott Evans.
