Rashid Sidek urges M’sian shuttlers to exemplify Tommy Sugiarto

Former Malaysian badminton star Rashid Sidek believes that local shuttlers should exemplify the determination that exists within Indonesian badminton player, Tommy Sugiarto.

The 27 year-old currently trains under Rashid Sidek, who is now attached with Sports Affairs Academy, having left BAM earlier this year.

He clinched the Vietnam Open title yesterday, after which Rashid claimed that Tommy has several key ingredients that are missing from some of the sub-par Malaysian shuttlers.

“He wasn’t aiming to be the champion, because the tournament pool was impressive. But he managed to do well, and showed tremendous focus in each match,” Rashid told Harian Metro.

“This is the first time, he’s been under my tutelage. He’s very discplined and exceptionally committed. And he’s always looking for ways to improve different facets of his style,” he added.

The Indonesian star defeated South Korea’s Lee Hyun Il in straight sets yesterday, winning 21-19, 21-19.
