‘Panic Buy!’ – 5 shocking #DeadlineDay transfer rumours

Brace yourselves, ladies and gents. The deadline day is now upon us!

This is where things get a little too insane. Over the years, we’ve seen the deadline day bring about surprises that just raises eyebrows. Two months of story-building, doesn’t matter at all, when it comes to the deadline day. Clubs tend to hit the panic button and secure signatures that they’ve never aimed for, in the beginning. Remember Wenger and Park Chu Yong?

So as we prepare to survive the upcoming onslaught of last-gasp moves, here are several ‘shocking’ moves that are reportedly being discussed!

1. Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester United

OUR VIEW: It’s not a surprise that Adebayor is being put for sale on deadline day – in fact, he’s been in that position since the beginning of the transfer window. Villa have been closely linked and are probably in pole position to sign him. But it’s not surprising to see United in the mix as well. Januzaj has been shipped off on-loan to Dortmund, Chicharito has left for good. As of now, they only have Wayne Rooney upfront, with Anthony Martial close to joining. But Adebayor is a recognized forward and could be a decent back-up for Rooney – who seems to have the trust of LvG. But think about it, United went from Griezman, Cavani, Pedro to Adebayor. That would be hilarious.

2. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Galatasaray

OUR VIEW: Turkish clubs have been going big this summer, and considering that Fenerbahce have signed RvP and Nani, it only makes sense for Galatasaray to aim for a marquee signing as well. We know what Chamberlain is all about – pace and work rate. But will he leave? Or will Arsenal let him leave? Chamberlain is not a regular starter, so you could argue that he’d be tempted by the prospect of regular football. But Arsenal take pride need a proper squad to challenge on all fronts, and Chamberlain is a valuable asset to them. Even so, it’s hard to imagine him swapping England for Turkey.

3. Edinson Cavani to Arsenal

OUR VIEW: Well, this is not a surprise, considering the rumour has been there all along. But the ‘shocking’ bit about this rumour is that it’s coming incredibly late. While Wenger has been reportedly spotted in Paris (unconfirmed), the window in France has closed. That means, that should Cavani leave, PSG will not be able to secure a replacement, not that there are plenty of world class forwards available in the market. Cavani would certainly boost Arsenal, but with Zlatan slowing down, and PSG going gung-ho with the capture of Di Maria, it’s hard to imagine them sacrificing Cavani, right at the death.

4. Paul Pogba to Chelsea

OUR VIEW: Let’s face it, Mourinho is a desperate man now. Chelsea have had a horrific start to the season, and their latest defeat to Crystal Palace showcased what they truly lack – a dynamic presence in the middle of park. Paul Pogba, could very well be answer. But is he an answer they can acquire in the next 12 hours? You’ve got to be kidding me. Juventus will not let him leave this summer, especially since they’ve let Vidal and Pirlo depart. And the Old Lady isn’t doing too well either, more reasons to not let their prized asset leave. Pogba himself, is not in a rush. He has a starting spot with Juventus, and that’s what he needs ahead of Euro 2016. So unless Mourinho pulls a David Copperfield, Pogba is certainly staying with Juve for the time being.

5. Alexandre Pato to Tottenham Hotspur

OUR VIEW: Despite signing Heung-Min Son, Spurs are still in the market for a striker, judging by Harry Kane’s poor form. But the Berahino saga dragged way too long, and it’s not surprising that they are looking at other options. But is Pato the man to solve their goalscoring woes? It’s a risk. He’s looked decent in Brazil, but lets not forget that he was once a world class forward with Milan. Spurs’ representatives are reportedly in Brazil to hash out a deal, which will most likely be around the 11 million pounds mark. Pato though, took to Instagram to post a picture of himself in a Sao Paolo shirt, saying “Together we are stronger”. Could that be a hint on his decision to remain in Brazil?
