Zulfahmi to quit Moto3 GP, gunning for Moto2 switch

Malaysian rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin has announced his intention of swapping Moto3 for Moto2 when the 2016 season kicks in.

Addressing his future plan for the first time, Zulfahmi said that the time is right for him to move to a higher class, having competed in the Moto3 since 2009.

He is currently in talks with several teams including the Malaysian-based team, JPMoto Racing Team.

“I am sure that I am not going to compete in Moto3 next season. At the moment, I am in discussion with several teams and I believe the decision will be made in the near future.

“That is (JPMoto Racing Team) one of the options I have, as well,” he told Harian Metro during the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix launching ceremony yesterday.

Zulfahmi also explained, how his current team, SIC Racing Team may try to get the service of a younger racer for next season.

“That is why I am pretty sure and confident that I am not going to be in SIC Racing Team anymore.

“As I said earlier, everything is still being discussed. It has looked positive so far and I will be making an announcement soon,” he said.

With only six races left, the Moto3 World Championship will resume at the San Marino Grand Prix on Sept 13 followed by Aragon Grand Prix (Sept 27), Japan Grand Prix (Oct 11), Australian Grand Prix (Oct 18), Malaysian Grand Prix (Oct 25) and before ending the season at the Valencia Grand Prix (Nov 8).
