Nur Suryani pushing hard for ‘Mission Rio’ in Kuwait

National shooter Nur Suryani Mohd Taibi admits her road to the 2016 Rio Olympics will be hard as she struggles to be among two of the best shooters around in the Asian Shooting Championships in Kuwait, this November.

Suryani, who took part in the 2012 Olympic Games, said she has to lift up her performance level in order to compete with other athletes from Singapore, Thailand, Mongolia and Kuwait.

“This event will be the last chance for all shooters to gain a spot in next year’s Olympics. I have no choice other than winning at least a silver medal for me to qualify for Rio.”

The 32-year-old spoke to Berita Harian after winning the gold medal in the women’s 50m Rifle 3 position event in the Tun Hanif Shooting Championship at Subang.

“My results today were not good. Usually I record more than 450.0 points, but I had to settle for less this time.”
