Vjeran Simunic laments Perak’s goalscoring frustrations

Vjeran Simunic has urged his Perak strikers to buck up and start being more clinical in front of goal, if they are interested in doing well in the Malaysia Cup this year.

The Seladangs managed to end their losing run with a narrow 1-0 win over Sarawak last weekend, but the victory removed the attention away from the fact that they were struggling to translate possession into goals.

But they have an opportunity to turn things around against ATM this weekend – something that Vjeran is hoping to see, in order to attract a bigger number of fans to the stadium.

“We have been dominating games, but our finishing has been poor. If this continues, it will only force us to work hard for the win, when we are actually capable of sealing it comfortably,” he told Harian Metro.

“Our attacking trio (Bobby, Chad, Namkung) needs to be a little more clinical and not be wasteful in front of goal.

“I also understand that fans usually come to watch us in big numbers, but in the game against Sarawak, we only had 6,000 fans present.

“So, we need to get back to winning ways and continue scoring more goals, in order to attract a higher number of fans to attend our home games,” he added.

WHAT DO WE THINK?

He’s only been in charge for two games, but it isn’t unfair to point out that his men haven’t been doing well offensively. They could have snatched something against JDT as well, had their finishing been more clinical. But that’s done and dusted – what they need to do against ATM this weekend, is seal a win with plenty of goals in it. It wouldn’t only restore their belief, but it’ll also restore fans’ belief in the team. One more win will put them on six points, which is not a bad spot to be in, if you’re looking to secure a slot in the knock-out rounds!
