Win Malaysia Cup, or resign! – Durakovic receives ultimatum from fan

Mehmet Durakovic’s struggles with Selangor is beginning to get on the nerves of their own fans, with one passionate Red Giants’ faithful suggesting that Durakovic should resign if he fails to secure the Malaysia Cup title this year.

The Australian head coach has been with Selangor for two years now, but he hasn’t been able to end Selangor’s barren silverware spell, which goes back to 2010 – the year in which they last won a title.

And they haven’t exactly done well in the Malaysia Cup either this season, winning only once thus far, from their first three games. As far as Anak Selangor Fan Club President, Faizal Wahid is concerned, enough is enough.

“I think two years is more than enough for Durakovic to prove himself. If he fails to win the Malaysia Cup this time, he needs to leave,” Faizal was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.

“As fans, we want to see the team win titles and not just hear excuses every year, despite the team not playing well on the field.

“Hence, I’m urging Selangor FA to make their expectations clear to Durakovic. I’m not satisfied with us merely winning the Sultan Selangor Cup. Durakovic needs be given a clear KPI,” he added.

WHAT DO WE THINK?

Yes, Selangor have not done well this season, but it’s crossing the line to suggest that they haven’t played attractive football on the pitch. And right now, there’s plenty of political turmoil within Selangor FA in itself, which is why the blame shouldn’t entirely be on Durakovic. Was he given the final say when it came to player transfers? Was he allowed to make the decision on which foreigners he wanted to sign? These are legitimate questions that needs to be asked, before we jump the gun and shift the entire blame on him.
