US Open Squash: Nicol David set for Massaro duel

Squash queen Datuk Nicol David will be taking on Laura Massaro in the quarter-finals of the US Open today, after easing past Nouran Gohar in Philadelphia.

The three-time defending champion took just 34 minutes to beat the Egyptian in straight set 11-6, 11-7 and 11-7 and is on track to retain her title this season.

Despite winning the game, Nicol said she was impressed with Nouran, who has improved rapidly in the last few months.

“She’s certainly a strong competitor and has been doing really well for the past few months. Today (yesterday) was a totally different game.

“I’m very focused on the game. I went in and give it my best. She is very persistent and your mind have to be in the game in order to keep winning.

“It’s great. As you can see, everybody is really picking up their game. Facing Laura in the quarter-finals is a treat for the crowd,” said Nicol.

Laura Massaro on the other hand, is set to provide stronger competition. She moved into the last eight after defeating Amanda Sobhy 11-8, 7-11, 11-4, 11-9.
