Nicol eases into quarters of Qatar Classic

Malaysian squash queen Datuk Nicol David moved one step closer towards her sixth Qatar Classic Squash Championship title after beating Victoria Lust from England in the second round.

The 32-year-old merely required 31 minutes to beat the 16th seed 11-5, 11-5, 11-5 and will face seventh seeded Annie Au from Hong Kong for a semi-final place on Wednesday.

As far as Nicol is concerned, she was just delighted to complete the win comfortably, despite carrying a minor calf injury.

“I’m just happy to get through the three sets. My injury doesn’t affect me that much, a week of rest has made a huge difference.

“But the next time, I have to be more cautious and stay on my toes in every match,” she told Bernama yesterday.

Nicol is gunning to secure her sixth Qatar Classic title, having won it five times over the last 8 years.
