China Open: Chong Wei beats Lin Dan to book final spot

Lee Chong Wei picked up a major confidence boost by defeating Lin Dan to book a spot in the final of the China Open.

The former world number one has been in poor form over the last few months, after his early exits at the Korea as well as Japan Open last month. Similarly, he has struggled against Lin Dan in the past.

But despite dropping the first set 17-21 earlier today, Chong Wei turned on the style and put on a resilient display to clinch the win by clinching the next two sets 21-19, 21-19.

This is Chong Wei’s first victory over Lin Dan since 2012, and it’s also his 10th ever win over the Chinese badminton legend.

That being said, the Malaysian number one will be facing another monumental challenge tomorrow, with current world number one Chen Long awaiting them in the final. Both men last faced each other at the World Championship in August, where Chen Long eventually triumphed.
