Malaysia Cup SF: Red Giants hold Pahang, Edeh rescues Kedah

Pahang held Selangor to a 0-0 draw in front of a boisterous crowd at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan, leaving the game wide open ahead of the second leg this weekend. Both sides were rather cautious with their approach though Pahang visibly dominated the tempo of the game, and could have even scored on several occassions through Dickson Nwakaeme and Hafiz Kamal.

In fact, Hafiz’s chance was probably the closest that Pahang came towards the breaking the deadlock, and his volley rattled against the bar in the first, with Norazlan Razali visibly beaten. With merely eight minutes left on the clock, Pahang were handed another glorious opportunity, but Dickson fired wide from close range – allowing the away fans to breath a sigh of relief. At the end of 90 minutes, the score remained 0-0 and Selangor will now head into the second leg without an away goal.

Meanwhile, Kedah and Felda United played out a competitive match at the Selayang Stadium today, with the final score being 2-2. Thiago Augusto put the hosts ahead early on in the first half with a fine finish, though five minutes before half time, Sandro Da Silva restored parity to make it 1-1 heading into the break.

In the second half, Kedah upped the tempo and were going gung ho in search of their second goal, but Felda managed to deliver the blow as Thiago netted his second goal of the day to make it 2-1. The Canaries though managed to equalize merely 8 minutes later as Chidi Edeh scored to make it 2-2 and give them a significant advantage in terms of away goals.

The second leg for both ties will take place this Sunday, with kick off slated for 8.45 PM.
